My CMEE “Christian Mission Education Event” was an eye opening event for me. My class was on Sudan, and I know you have read the news of many atrocities happening in this country. I saw many pictures of God’s children suffering due to political issues. Those pictures of the children will always be in my mind. If any of us ever have the opportunity to alleviate this suffering, even one child, I hope we will do so.
Hebrews 12: 1 - “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” The best way to get faith or to regain faith is to keep company with the inspired. Faith has a way of being gloriously infectious. The faith of one person spills over into the life of another. From the beginning of Methodist Women there has been a desire to work with others to fulfill the needs of mission around the world for women, youth and children. Those eight women in 1868 saw a need and they began to talk with others and share what they knew they had to do. They had faith in what they could do and others saw the excitement and wanted to be a part of it. They ran with perseverance the race that was set before them. If we attend UMW functions, events etc. we come away wanting to be in missions for others, because we see others excited about what they are doing, it is contagious.
You will hear more and more of the upcoming Conference Annual Day. Please note we will be meeting at Milan First, Milan, TN on September 19, 2009. Registration will begin at 8:45 am with the program set to start at 9:45 am. The program will end at noon, after lunch, BUT, we will have officers training after lunch for approximately an hour. We are trying to be good stewards with our time and expenses, saving travel time for another meeting. This year we have another opportunity to have a hands on project. We are asking each local unit to make one or more Cleaning Bucket, “formerly Flood Bucket”. Bill Carr, our Conference Disaster Relief Coordinator, will pick these buckets up and deliver them to needed areas. If you need to know contents you can pull it up on the Web Site under “UMCOR” or you can contact your District President for help.
I look forward to seeing you at Annual Day, September 19th 2009 at Milan.. May we make history in serving others in our conference and around the world?
Keep telling the story.
