Mission Opportunities!

How can we help?

One of our many mission opportunities is Reelfoot Rural Ministries.  Mary Lou Wurth  sent this to us to consider.  They have many needs..do we have willing hands?

How many people need food for their families?  How many children will not have school supplies when school starts, or enough clothes to wear?  How many people will be cold because they have no winter coat?  How many children will not have a safe place to spend those hours between school and their parents getting home from work.  How many seniors are alone most of the time, or need a hot nutritious meal?  How many people can not eat or sleep, or do anything because of the pain of a diseased tooth?

The answer to all of these questions is TOO MANY! Reelfoot Rural Ministries is working to provide for the needs of hurting people. Every day hurting people come into the facilities of RRM for help. We at RRM need your help to provide for these hurting people.

How can you help? Here are some suggestions;

The Christmas Toy Store will need lots of toys for the many children in Lake, Dyer, Obion and Fulton (Kentucky) Counties.  Last year was the biggest year for the toy store—ever. It is expected that even more families will need help in 2009.  When you purchase toys, please remember the older boys, aged 12 over.  We never have enough toys for them. Instead of purchasing a Christmas gift for a gift exchange in your local units, pool your money and support a child at day care for a day ($10), week ($50), a month ($200), or a year ($2400).

There’s also the food bank to stock. It’s getting low on food.  RRM needs sugar, flour, oil, rice, dried beans, canned fruit, cereal, cleaning supplies, paper products and protein products (meat—there are freezers on site!). The big food drive takes place in late fall, but RRM always needs food! Perhaps your church, UMW Unit or Sunday School class would like to collect a different food each month. You could also select a single product and collect that item all the time.

Remember, we now have a Thrift Store located across the road from RRM Center! Please consider donating good used clothing, household items, and furniture.

We’re always in need of helping hands! Do you have some free time?  Consider a tour of RRM, or spending some time volunteering!  There’s food to sort in the food bank, clothing to sort at the Thrift Store.  We can use volunteers for a day or longer!  Come and spend a day with us! Bring your youth group for a weekend stay!

Would you like someone from RRM to come to your church or community group? Michael Blake, Executive Director, is available to come and speak to your group.  Some board members like Beth Brown and Mary Lou Wurth and some employees are available to provide informative programs about Reelfoot Rural Ministries. Please consider us for a program at your church., UMW, Sunday School.  Contact us at 731-538-9970, or Mary Lou Wurth at 270-642-1512 or mwurth@wk.net.
