….and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
I tend to become more emotional these days than in the past. Songs touch my heart and especially memories. I have often wondered if it has to do with “age”. Changes have to happen if we are going to live and grow. The United Methodist Women (Womens Division) as a whole is also in a time of transition and changes, but, even through all of that we are still in mission. Our Response magazine this month was filled with stories concerning change and transitions. But no matter at the changes and transition we all go through, there is one great wonderful thing we can count on, that is knowing that our Lord is always there for us if we just ask.
One of our services during the holidays was very meaningful for me Our pastor had placed stones in a dish and covered them with water, placing them at different stations. We were to go to one of these stations, taking a stone from the water and make the sign of the cross on our forehead. As I kneeled at the altar I began to rub the stone between my fingers. Part of the stone was rough, other places were smooth and it also had a deep crevice within it. As I kept rubbing the stone I begin to think how this stone related to my life. Some of my life has been joyful, thus the smooth times. Other times when problems arrived it was rough. The crevice depicted times when I was down, but I would come out to the top, thus the valleys and mountain tops. All of us have times such as these, but one thing is abundantly clear, our Lord is always there for us, waiting for us to talk to Him.
The United Methodist Women are always making changes to keep up with the times we live in, not the way “it used to be”. I am one of those people that find it hard to change. We have learned from our parents the way we lived our lives and when we see others going in another direction it is difficult to turn around. I am not saying I cannot do it, but sometimes it is hard to make these transitions. I often think of “the good ole days”, no running water, no air conditioning, no indoor plumbing, washing clothes on a rub board and hanging them on a clothes line outside and hoping it doesn’t rain. Come to think of it these are some of the transitions I am glad we made. As we work in our local unit let us be open to listen to others. What they have to say may make us want to make a change. Let us be open to each other.
Just remember….keep telling the story! |
