Hello Memphis Conference                                                                                        United Methodist  Women!

Let me introduce myself—I am Donna Moore, your Secretary of                                                                        Program  Resources or SPR for 2010.  I know all too well what big shoes                                               I have to fill  but I am energized and eager to get started.

This year proves to be an exciting one with brilliant Mission Studies and an  awesome array of speakers lined up for every conference event.

The Book Nook (a.k.a. the book room) will have a new look this year and a very unusual character

will be sneaking in at opportune times to get you revved up and reading!  Why - I know you have

already got those rhinestone reading glasses poised on your cute little nose and are probably way ahead of me already. I mean, what else have you had to do during the snow days?

I want to take a moment to re-emphasize why we promote The Reading Program:  the purpose is to encourage UMW members to expand their understanding of and participation in God’s mission; to increase sensitivity to all human beings—their needs, interest and concerns; to encourage critical thinking about issues facing humanity today; to grow in understanding of Scripture as it relates to Christian faith in contemporary life; to enhance self-knowledge and to act from that knowledge; and to strengthen involvement in local and global Christian mission.

WHEW!  That’s quite a ball of yarn!  Now, you know I’m going to be on your case about reading more books—but just know that there are some very, very important reasons why I’m giving you the nudge.

Anyway, I look forward to meetin’ and greetin’ all of you so—Get ready y’all!  The Book Nook and ?????????? are coming to town!

The Clarion                            February  2010

For those of us going to the Assembly..

We have scarves made up as our “ID Tags”.  They’re beautiful and handmade! They will also help us ’stand out’ at Assembly.  Marilyn Ramsey, our Spiritual Growth Coordinator is taking care of them.

The cost per scarf is $8.50. Please get your money to your District Treasurer that’s attending Assembly, or to a Conference Officer.  We’re looking to get all monies collected for these as soon as possible.

Have you registered for our Spiritual Growth Retreat yet? It promises to be a wonderful experience.  The title is “Pilgrimage Journeys of Body, Mind, and Spirit” with Rev. Birgette French leading the retreat. There will be two sessions; Thursday and Friday, April 16th and 17th; and Saturday and Sunday, April 18th and 19th.

We really need to start taking advantage of these retreats. We’re all doing so much for others that we often neglect to do something for ourselves. We need a chance to relax, recharge and spend some time with wonderful people. The setting (if you’ve never been to Lakeshore) starts relaxing you as soon as you arrive.  The peace of Lakeshore slowly soaks into your heart. As you sit down in the meeting room, you’ll probably catch a glimpse of the squirrels chasing each other, or the birds trying to find out what we’re doing inside.

The schedule is set up to do the same.  the schedule is paced so that we don’t hurry, hurry, hurry..

Bring someone with you that needs a break. What a better gift to give then the gift of relaxation and wonderful fellowship? Laughter, prayer, great food, music and song.. What more could you ask for?  Don’t miss out!  See you there!
